Epiglottitis Diagnosis
Before starting to diagnose epiglottitis, a doctor will need to secure your airway. This can ensure that you would breathe properly during the procedure. To find out the underlying cause, a flexible laryngoscope will be inserted into the throat. This is a thin and long tube attached to a camera. Images from the camera will help your doctor examine the area for any signs of infection or injury. There would be mild discomfort, which can be relieved with a local anesthetic. Based on the results, some additional tests would be done to confirm the results, including a CT scan, X-ray, biopsy, throat culture swab, or a blood test. [8]
