Stimming
Stimming refers to any repetitive movements that are done for the purpose of self-soothing or sensory soothing. This is a very common sign in babies with autism, especially in the early stage. Typical stimming behaviors include:
– Jumping
– Circle spinning
– Rocking repeatedly back and forth
– Staring at moving or colorful objects
– Chewing or biting objects
– Wiggling fingers before the eyes
– Waving or flapping arms or hands
– Hitting, scratching or biting themselves [6]
