What is Korsakoff Syndrome?
Korsakoff syndrome is a type of alcohol-related brain damage. It usually occurs as part of a disease called Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, which has two separate but associated stages: first is Wernicke’s encephalopathy and the second is Korsakoff syndrome. This condition is mostly diagnosed in people with alcoholism due to an obvious deficiency of thiamine. Compared to other forms of alcohol-related brain damage like alcoholic dementia, Korsakoff is not so common. [1]
