Multiple Sclerosis and Pregnancy

What Is Multiple Sclerosis?

Multiple sclerosis is a potentially disabling condition that affects the central nervous system and the brain. In people with this disease, the immune system mistakenly attacks the myelin that covers and protects nerve fibers. This leads to communication issues between the brain and other body parts. As a result, permanent deterioration or damage of the nerves would happen. Symptoms can vary a lot, depending on the affected nerves and amount of damage. If left untreated, multiple sclerosis would affect how people walk and move around. There is currently no cure for the disease, but some treatment options may speed up recovery and manage symptoms.  [1]
