If you have several symptoms but the underlying cause is still unclear, the doctor might suggest a brain scan to find out some possible triggers. The most common techniques include a PET scan, EEG test, MRI scan, or CT scan. A PET scan would show the pattern of your brain activities and determine if the hallmark of dementia, which is amyloid protein, is deposited in your brain. MRI or CT could help the doctor find out the evidence for tumor, hydrocephalus, bleeding, or stroke, which are some possible causes of dementia in many people. [5]
