Injury or Wound
When an injury happens, either intentionally as a result of surgery or accidentally, clotting factors or proteins in the blood will coagulate at the wounded area. This process forms a blood clot to prevent bleeding. However, the blood clot would sometimes occur inside one of your deep veins and develop into deep vein thrombosis. The risk is especially high when the injury causes damage to the wall of a blood vessel, which blocks or narrow blood flow. [7]
