Depending on the area where cancer cells have spread to, some systemic treatments should be done to treat de novo metastatic breast cancer. These include immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy. Surgery is another option, but it has been becoming less favorable over the last decades. It is still controversial whether people with de novo metastatic breast cancer should undergo surgery to remove the tumor. Some studies have shown that it may increase the overall survival rate. However, surgical procedures are not recommended unless the tumor leads to a lot of discomfort and pain. [7]
