Crohn’s Disease – Causes, Diagnosis, Treatments

Crohn’s Diagnosis

Crohn’s disease can‘t be diagnosed with a single method. The diagnosis needs both clinical evaluation and a series of examinations. Doctors usually take multiple tests to rule out possible health problems and establish a diagnosis. The combination tests include:

Blood Tests

Blood tests involve routine blood tests and antibody blood tests. Routine blood tests can check if patients have anemia, inflammation, infection, and deficiencies of vitamins or minerals. The appearance of C-reactive protein (CRP) is an indicator of inflammation. A low amount of potassium and Vitamin B12 also supports the presence of Crohn’s disease. Antibody blood tests can detect certain proteins in the blood, like the anti-saccharomyces cerevisiae antibody (ASCA), a biomarker of Crohn’s disease.
