Common Types of Hernias

Inguinal Hernia

An inguinal hernia happens when fat or a part of the intestine bulges through your lower stomach wall. In most cases, the bulge tends to go through the inguinal canal located in your groin area. It may contain a part of your small intestine or even some parts of the women’s female reproductive organs. Inguinal hernias often appear on the right area of the body. They are much more prevalent in males as well. Possible symptoms include sharp pain, burning sensations, pain when you exercise or cough, or swollen scrotum. It can be hard sometimes to differentiate between inguinal and femoral hernia. There is no one cause for this type, but some major risk factors would increase the likelihood. These include chronic constipation, chronic cough, cystic fibrosis, pregnancy, obesity, premature birth, or heredity.  [6]
