Risk Factors

The risk of hepatitis A infection is linked to poor water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions. It is important to state clearly that anybody can contract Hepatitis A– male or female, aged or young, rich or poor. However, there are categories of people who run a higher risk of having the infection. These include:

— Travellers to regions or countries with poor sanitation levels (or those where the infection is common).

— People who come in direct contact with a patient with the disease.

— Men who have sex with other men (since the Infection is usually transmitted orally or anal)

— Those with blood clotting disorders such as hemophilia.

— People who inject drugs (especially recreational drugs). [2]

— Children kept in child care.

— Homeless people.
