Cholesteatoma – Causes, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

Perforated Eardrum

A ruptured or perforated eardrum is a tear or hole in the thin tissue that divides the eardrum or middle ear from the ear canal. This condition makes the middle ear more susceptible to infections, which eventually causes cholesteatomas. It often heals in a couple of weeks without treatments. However, some serious cases might need surgery. If left untreated, it can even lead to hearing loss. Typical signs of a ruptured eardrum include ear pain, ringing noises in the ear, spinning sensation, pus-filled drainage, and vomiting or nausea. [4]
