Medication Treatments for Calcinosis Cutis
A wide range of medications can be tried for treating lesions caused by calcinosis cutis. However, the effectiveness is still in question. Common options for small lesions include intravenous immunoglobulin, ceftriaxone, and warfarin. For bigger spots, medications like aluminum hydroxide, probenecid, bisphosphonates, or diltiazem can help. Some studies have shown that a low dose of minocycline, an antibiotic, can help alleviate the extent of lesions and pain in those with CREST syndrome. Another option is topical sodium thiosulfate.
