Developmental Factors
Some factors during our developmental process would trigger bulimia nervosa. Our behaviors, thought patterns, habits, and personalities are ingrained throughout childhood. Thus, both negative and positive experiences during these developing periods would affect our psychology in adulthood. Those kids who experienced a lot of trauma and abuse tend to be at higher risk of developing bulimia nervosa later in life. Bullying, verbal abuse, the loss of close relatives, or divorce are some common examples. In this case, the support from other friends and family members, as well as professional help from a therapist can be helpful in preventing bulimia nervosa. [10]
