Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder
There are nine typical symptoms of borderline personality disorder:
– Unstable relationships like idealizing a person and then unexpectedly he or she is cruel or does not care about you enough.
– A strong fear of abandonment. This forces them to take extreme measures to prevent imagined or real rejection or separation.
– Loss of contact with reality or stress-linked paranoia. This sign can last for several minutes or hours.
– Quick changes in self-image and self-identity like thinking you do not exist, considering yourself as terrible, or changing values and goals.
– Self-injury or suicidal behavior or threats, usually as a result of fear of rejection or separation.
– Risky and impulsive behavior like unprotected sex, reckless driving, gambling, binge eating, or alcohol and drug abuse.
– A persistent feeling of emptiness.
– Intense and inappropriate anger.
– Extreme mood swings in several hours or days, including intense anxiety, shame, irritability, or happiness. [4]
