7 Bladder Cancer Treatments

Cystectomy

When you are dealing with invasive bladder cancer, then the doctors might perform a cystectomy, a type of surgeon which removes parts or all of your bladder. In both cases, general anesthesia will be used.

If the cancer is large and invades many parts of your bladder, then a radical cystectomy is necessary. This procedure removes the whole bladder and surrounding lymph nodes. In women, the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries are also removed. In men, the seminal vesicles and prostate are removed too.

A partial cystectomy is needed when the condition isn’t very large and just in an area. In this case, the doctors just need to remove the muscle layer of your bladder wall and close it with stitches. The main problem with this type is that cancer could still recur in other parts of the bladder. [2]
