Foods to Avoid For Hemochromatosis
People with hemochromatosis should consume red meat in moderation as it is a source of iron. Ideally, do not eat more than 2 or 3 portions each week. Consider pairing red meat with some foods that can minimize iron absorption. Also, avoid raw seafood to reduce the risks of developing hemochromatosis. Vitamin C is one of the most powerful boosters of iron absorption. Thus, it is better to limit the intake of some vitamin C-rich foods. This can also be true for vitamin A. Last but not least, avoid drinking alcoholic drinks as chronic alcoholism would exacerbate your condition. [8]
