Infections
Many infections would trigger neurological symptoms of dementia, such as delirium or confusion. These issues come from the fever or side effects of your body when it is trying to fight against the bacteria or viruses causing the infection. Encephalitis and meningitis are the most common infectious conditions of the membrane and the brain. Both of them would cause memory loss, impaired judgment, and confusion. Untreated syphilis would also damage your nervous system and lead to dementia over time. In some rare cases, Lyme disease would be the trigger of thinking and memory difficulties. [4]
