Nucleic Amplification Test

The nucleic amplification test is a type of genetic testing commonly used for genital and urinary gonorrhea. The advantages of this technique are precise and quick results. In general, the test does not identify the bacteria but looks for their unique genetic factors. It can be done by getting a urine sample or acquiring a swab of the cervix, urethra, or vagina. After that, the sample goes through a procedure called thermocycling in which DNA elements are duplicated. The test would show a genetic footprint of gonorrhea precisely in several hours. You would get your testing results in 2 or 3 days. In some cases, your doctor can also use this test to diagnose gonorrhea in the throat or rectum.[1]
