Why Your Poop Might Smell Like Sulfur

Malabsorption

Malabsorption is probably the commonest factor behind the stink of poop. For ingested food to achieve the desired nutritional needs of the body it must be digested and properly absorbed into the blood. A large part of the food we eat pass through this sequence and eventually end up as beneficial nutrients. However, in some disease conditions, malabsorption of food is significantly high and presents a primary cause of foul-smelling poop. Some factors that cause malabsorption include, ulcerative colitis, lactose intolerance, Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel syndrome.[2]
