What’s the Rarest Blood Type?

Rh Factor

Blood type can also be determined by the Rh factor, another antigen in red blood cells. Depending on the presence of the Rh antigen, each type of blood can be assigned a negative symbol or positive symbol:

– Rh-negative: This blood type does not have Rh antigens on the surface of red blood cells. People with this blood type can only receive Rh-negative blood

– Rh-positive: This blood type has Rh antigens on the surface of red blood cells. People with this blood type can receive both Rh-negative and Rh-positive blood

Along with the ABO system, there are basically 8 common types of blood A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, and O-. [3]
