Blood draws are generally safe and common. However, there can be some possible risks. You might have mild to moderate pain in the affected area due to the needle prick. Your injected site might throb after a few minutes. Bruising and bleeding can happen as well. In some rare cases, there might be other side effects, such as inflammation of the vein, an infection, a buildup of blood under the skin, excessive bleeding, or fainting.
