Test Results
Normal reticulocyte levels can vary, depending on hemoglobin levels in each person’s blood and lab procedures. Sometimes, other tests can be done to help with the interpretation. The results are often reported in percentage, which is calculated by dividing the percentage of reticulocytes by the total numbers of red blood cells.
The healthy range is between 0.5 and 1.5 percent. High reticulocyte count would indicate kidney disease, erythroblastosis fetalis, hemolytic anemia, chronic blood loss, or acute bleeding. Low reticulocyte count would suggest aplastic anemia, iron deficiency anemia, cirrhosis, kidney disease, bone marrow failure, a deficiency of vitamin B12, a deficiency of folic acid, or side effects after radiation therapy. Ask your healthcare provider to understand the results better and take proper measures to prevent or treat the underlying health issues. [6]
