How to Qualify for Medicare Disability Benefits?

If you have a qualifying disability, it is still possible to enroll into Medicare even when you are younger than 65 years old. To be eligible, you must get benefits for Social Security Disability Insurance for 2 years. A widow or a worker usually has to wait 5 months before getting these benefits. During this period, they would apply for coverage under a health plan offered by the employer. If you have ALS or ESRD, there will be no 2-year waiting period for getting these benefits. If you get a diagnosis for ESRD, benefits can start 3 months after getting a kidney transplant or regular dialysis. [6]
