Medicare Age Requirement

Medicare Eligibility Age

Medicare is eligible for those people who are 65 years old and older. This can be applied whether you are still working or not at the age of 65. You do not have to be in retirement to apply for this insurance plan. If you currently have insurance through the employer, Medicare will be the secondary insurance. In general, it is possible to apply for Medicare:

– During the month when you turn 65 years old

– As early as three months before the month when you turn 65 years old

– Up to three months after the month when you turn 65 years old

This means you may have a total of seven months around your 65th birthday to be eligible for Medicare. [2]
