Chemical Exposure
Direct exposures to certain chemicals and toxins would cause dysgeusia. The risk is especially high in factory workers or those who often work with detergents, cosmetics, pesticides, and other industrial components. These substances would penetrate the body through nasal passages, mouth, or skin and subsequently impair the sensation of taste. Even chemotherapy for cancer treatment can also be a possible cause. It is more common in people with neck and head cancer. [5]
