Does Medicare Cover Physical Therapy?

Physical Therapy in Medicare Part B

Medicare Part B covers outpatient services and certain preventive services. If physical therapy is medically necessary, it may be covered by this plan. This includes both the treatment and diagnosis of the illness or condition that affects your body’s function. You may benefit from this form of care at certain facilities, such as outpatient rehab centers, hospital outpatient departments, private physical therapists, medical offices, skilled nursing centers, or even at home with a Medicare-approved therapist. Similar to Part A, you need to meet the deductible before Medicare Part B starts paying for 80 percent your physical therapy expenses. As of 2021, this amount is $203. [4]
