You can take azithromycin to treat different forms of infections. These may include:

– Infections spread by ticks: Lyme disease and babesiosis

– Respiratory tract infections: whooping cough, pneumonia, bronchitis, Legionnaire’s disease, and mycobacterium avium complex

– Bacterial conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye

– Ear infections

– Infections of the skin or soft tissue

– Tonsillitis and pharyngitis

– Sexually transmitted infections: chancroid or chlamydia

Doctors may also prescribe azithromycin to prevent a heart infection in those having surgical procedures or prevent sexually transmitted infections in victims of sexual assault.
