Throat Lozenges
Throat lozenges are home remedies for strep throat. They can be purchased over the counter. Lozenges work by dissolving in the mouth slowly and in the process, lubricate the throat lining and ease irritation. It should not be swallowed; it is essential to suck them and let them dissolve into your mouth. By so doing, you release the drugs and activate the ingredients in them. Lozenges are sucked and dissolved to stimulate the salivary glands to produce saliva. The saliva produced then mixes with the ingredients to soothe the lining of the throat and reduce pain. Lozenges contain ingredients like antibacterials, menthol and even local anesthetic which helps to numb the throat.[7]
