To understand the Tetralogy of Fallot, it is important to know how the heart operates. The main function of this organ is to pump blood to other body parts. This blood contains oxygen and nutrients needed for normal operation. When the heart does not work as usual, the process of pumping blood can be affected. As a result, other bodily tissues cannot get sufficient nutrients to work. All heart defects associated with Tetralogy of Fallot tend to be present when people are born.
