Sarcoma is a general term for a group of different cancer forms that start in the soft tissues and bones. In general, it can be classified into more than 50 types in 2 main categories: soft tissue sarcoma and sarcoma of the bone.

Soft tissue type occurs in the tissues connecting, supporting, and surrounding other body parts like join lining, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, fat, and muscle. These include angiosarcoma, liposarcoma, synovial sarcoma, leiomyosarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, neurofibrosarcoma, mesenchymoma, myxofibrosarcoma, fibrosarcomas, schwannoma, vascular sarcoma, and more.

Some common types of bone sarcoma include fibrosarcoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, and osteosarcoma. [2]
