Surgical Treatment
When your body does not respond to medications or when the condition spreads quickly to other body parts, surgery might be needed. In addition, the doctor would suggest this treatment option when you:
– Have a mycobacterial or fungal infection
– Have a trapped foreign object in the eye
– Have an abscess in the brain or eye socket
– Have worse signs or vision issues after taking medications
There are a few surgical options for people with orbital cellulitis. These include removing the foreign object, draining fluid from an abscess or infected area, and analyzing a culture sample. [6]
