Primary Hypoparathyroidism Causes
Primary hypoparathyroidism is basically a disease of the parathyroid glands. It can be caused when you are born with missing, malformed, or malfunctioning parathyroid glands. In addition, pregnant women who have high levels of calcium or parathyroid hormone can increase the risk of developing either long-term or short-term hypoparathyroidism in the baby. Some genetic conditions would lead to inadequate function and development of the parathyroid glands as well. Lastly, antibodies can attack tissues of the parathyroid glands, thus preventing these parts from generating hormone. [3]
