Common Causes of Spotting in Pregnancy
Ectopic Pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy means that an egg is fertilized and implanted outside the woman’s uterus. You may still get a positive result for a pregnancy test or experience signs of pregnancy. Nevertheless, the pregnancy cannot last. It may rupture and lead to a serious infection or fatal bleeding over time. When an ectopic pregnancy progresses, it would result in spotting. If a rupture occurs, internal bleeding would worsen in a few hours. Other possible signs include discomfort when pooing or peeing, shoulder pain, tummy pain, and a missed period. There are currently three treatment options for ectopic pregnancy: medications, expectant management, and surgery. [2]
