Level 2: Needing Significant Support
Level 2 of autism may experience the following communication problems:
– Significant problems with nonverbal and verbal communication skills in social circumstances
– Difficulty starting social interaction
– Clear social problems in spite of support and assistance
– Limited interactions to narrower special interests
– Diminished response to social interaction from other people
This level is also characterized by repetitive behaviors, such as:
– Trouble adjusting action or focus
– Repetitive or limited behaviors that may disrupt functioning or may be obvious to others
– Difficulty coping with changes
– Inflexible behaviors [7]
