Avoidance of Triggers

Avoiding triggers is the most effective way to prevent a flare-up of eczema. These may include flu, cold, humid and hot weather, dry and cold weather, cigarette smoke, metal, food allergens, fragrances, household cleaners, soaps, dry skin, stress, antibacterial ointments, and abrasive fabrics, such as polyester or wool. Remember that not everyone is affected by these factors due to differences in health conditions and genetics. Also, it is hard to determine which triggers are leading to a flare. A simple way to know is to have a diary to record your daily activities. Avoidance of triggers is not a simple task. Some possible measures include dressing properly, applying stress-relieving techniques, reading labels of products, and more. [4]
