CEAP Classification
The current standard to stage chronic venous insufficiency is the CEAP system. In general, it includes:
– C stands for clinical: This indicates how the condition is impacting the body
– E stands for etiological: This suggests the cause of the condition
– A stands for anatomical: This shows the affected veins
– P stands for pathophysiological: It suggests the effect of the condition on the blood flow
While all of these letters can be used to stage chronic venous insufficiency, the C classification is the most common option. It basically evaluates vein function, skin quality, swelling, and ulcer formation. [3]
