Diagnosis
In most cases, a sore throat can be diagnosed easily with a physical exam. Your doctor can take a look inside the throat to notice some common symptoms of the condition. For a strep throat, there are a few tests that can be performed to confirm the presence of bacteria. The most common method is the rapid strep test, which helps determine and locate these microorganisms. To do this test, your healthcare provider needs to swab both the back and tonsils of the mouth. It takes around 10 minutes to have the results. If your doctor is still unsure, then he or she can conduct a throat culture. A sample from the back of your mouth and tonsils will be needed for further testing in the lab. Results are available in a few days to decide whether you are dealing with a strep throat or not.
