Diagnosing Sleep Apnea in Children
To diagnose sleep apnea, a healthcare provider first needs to collect information from the parents and the kid about any possible symptoms and sleep habits. A physical exam can be performed to look for some physical signs associated with this disorder in the throat, neck, or mouth. Based on initial information, other tests may be suggested to make the final diagnosis. For instance, a sleep study called polysomnography can be done to evaluate some body functions when children are sleeping. This noninvasive and painless procedure can be a good way to assess suspected sleep apnea in children and provide definitive results. [7]
