Rotator Cuff Tendonitis Treatments
Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
Many nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs can reduce inflammation and improve symptoms of rotator cuff tendonitis. Some common options include naproxen, ibuprofen, or aspirin. They can control the inflammation reaction in the body and reduce pain or swelling. Keep in mind that these drugs would be hard on the stomach, liver, and kidneys. Thus, avoid taking them longer than 14 days after an injury. You should also avoid muscle relaxers or painkillers because they do not help with inflammation. Pain-relieving or anti-inflammatory gels or creams can be an alternative to NSAIDs. They are especially effective when the inflamed tendons are located close to the surface of the skin. [5]
