Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension – Symptoms & Causes

Skin Coloration

People with pulmonary hypertension tend to experience skin coloration. This can be seen around the skin, nails, gums, and lips. These areas would have bluish or blue tints. This is caused by a lack of oxygen in the body. Your heart is responsible for pumping oxygen-rich blood to fuel all of the important functions and activities. When the amount is insufficient, your lips and skin will be affected and turned into a different color. In addition to pulmonary hypertension, blue lips can also be triggered by lung diseases, high altitudes, and blood clots. [7]
