Psoriatic Arthritis Enthesitis: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention

Causes and Risk Factor of Psoriatic Arthritis Enthesitis

Scientists believe that psoriatic arthritis enthesitis when physical stress is placed on a body part. This may lead to accumulated damage gradually. When the immune system senses these damage, it produces cytokines, a substance that may cause inflammation. In many people, enthesitis may sometimes occurs due to overuse of joints, especially in Achilles tendonitis or tennis elbow. Symptoms tend to go away with the use of NSAIDs, icing, and rest. However, the immune system of people with psoriatic arthritis enthesitis does not function properly, causing inflammation levels to increase and leading to chronically inflamed entheses. Some individuals with psoriatic arthritis would be at a higher risk of developing enthesitis. Possible risk factors include obesity, young age, or a high number of actively inflamed joints. [4]
