Polyuria – Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment

Medication Side Effects

Some medications might increase the volume of urine as a side effect. If you notice symptoms of polyuria after starting a new drug or changing the dosage, make sure to inform your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Many diuretic medications used for treating high blood pressure and congestive heart failures, such as loop diuretics, potassium-sparing diuretics, and thiazide diuretics, can be possible culprits. Another cause can be lithium, which is often used for controlling mood disorders. If taken regularly, the medication can affect kidney function and trigger polyuria. In most cases, a simple solution is to adjust the dosage or change to another medication. [5]
