Possible Risks of Treatments
Supportive care and medications can help people with pleural effusion recover after several days or weeks. However, invasive treatments would lead to some minor complications, such as discomfort or slight pain. These problems tend to go away over time. Some cases would experience more severe complications. This depending on the treatment option, cause, and severity. Some serious complications include bleeding, infection, partially collapsed lung, or pulmonary edema. However, they are very rare.[10]
