PCOS and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

How to Diagnose PCOS and IBS

To diagnose PCOS and IBS, your doctor first needs to know about your medical history to understand what would be leading to current symptoms. One or more of the following tests can be done:

– Physical exam: Your doctor may examine the size of the ovaries to diagnose PCOS. For IBS, they may have to check the stomach and look for signs of abdominal bloating.

– Ultrasound: This test can help examine the ovaries for signs of excess follicles, which are sacs filled with fluids in which eggs develop.

– Blood tests: The results can help identify unusual levels of hormones in PCOS and rule out other diseases with similar symptoms.

– Stool test: To look for signs of blood or infection in the stool. [8]
