Osteoporosis Causes & Risk Factors

Medical History

Certain medical conditions would increase the risk of developing osteoporosis. These include lupus, cancer, liver disease, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and multiple myeloma. In most cases, these conditions tend to affect hormone levels in the body, which subsequently reduces bone density and speeds up bone loss. Even taking medications for treating these diseases can also increase the risk.[10]
