Once the doctor has confirmed mesothelioma, he or she would need to do additional tests to know whether cancer cells have spread to other body parts, especially the lymph nodes. Possible options include positron emission tomography or PET, magnetic resonance imaging or MRI, and a CT scan of the abdomen and chest. The results can help identify the exact stage of mesothelioma, which eventually determines the treatment plan.[3]
