Types of Memory Loss

There are different types of memory loss. Memory loss may take a mild form, which is believed to be normal. The type of memory loss tells much about the cause. Medically, memory loss is usually referred to as amnesia. There are mainly three types of amnesia. They are:

  • Retrograde amnesia: Here, a person loses all or part of their memory of past events.
  • Anterograde amnesia: The person can’t form memories of new events, even to remember the name of someone they just met.
  • Transient global amnesia: A person may experience moments of confusion and panic, which they can’t remember after it’s over. It’s a temporary loss of all memory of an event. [1]
