Treatments of H. pylori infection should be carried out with a medication combination as no single drug is effective enough to kill the “stomach bug” alone. The treatment protocol should include a proton pump inhibitor like Prevacid, Prilosec, Protonix, and two antibiotics like Amoxycillin, Clarithromycin, Metronidazole, at least. The proton pump inhibitor (PPI) can help heal ulcers by decreasing the production of stomach acid. Antibiotics can kill bacteria. However, because H. pylori can develop antibiotic resistance easily while using a single antibiotic, doctors often prescribe two antibiotics to lower the risk of treatment failure. People receiving H. Pylori treatment should avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating spicy foods. Failure to take medicine on time can reduce the success rate considerably. [5]
