NSAIDs or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are strongly associated with the development of diverticulitis. Many scientists have found that all types of NSAIDs, including over-the-counter and prescription, have the same possible harms. While the main goal of these medications is to treat another underlying condition, they would cause some side effects of changing the balance or level of bacteria in your digestive system. This would lead to inflammation or irritation and cause diverticulitis. Those people who take these medications in an extended period are especially at the highest risks. Some other drugs that would cause diverticulitis include opiate analgesics or oral corticosteroids. [12]
