Congestive Heart Failure Stages & Life Expectancy

Classification of Congestive Heart Failure

Congestive heart failure can be classified based on the results of physical exams, lab tests, and physical checks. The main goal of the classification is to choose the right course of treatment. In general, there are two systems that most doctors and experts often rely on. These include the functional system and the staging system. In functional classification, congestive heart failure is divided into 4 classes, ranging from I to IV, based on the symptoms and capacities for physical activities. In staging classification, it ranges from stage A to stage D in which the last stage requires most medical interventions, such as heart transplants. [3]
